GLOOM!!!!

Nothing today, I'm afraid. I've been having computer problems so I figured I'd buy some time by reposting one of my very favorite photo stories, the one where a poet writes a romantic poem (2007). I loved that story, even though I looked fat in it.

Well, Blogger just erased it (no, the back button wouldn't recover it).

Things like that don't happen with Blogger the way it's currently set up, but way back in 2007 it happened all the time. Blogger had real stability issues back then, and users who fiddled with a previously posted blog risked losing it. I should have known better than to mess with the old stuff.

I've gotta take a day off to mourn.

Don't despair - it's still in Google's cache if you hurry! I've backed it up too.

Kellie: Wow! I didn't know that Google did that! Many many many many many many many many many many many thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Do you know how I can transfer that archive page to the current Blogger site? For reasons too long to explain I can't use VLC screen grabs, and I can't reconstruct the post by dragging the individual pictures to my desktop. Any suggestions? If not, don't fret. The advice you've already given me has helped a lot.

When you go to the Google cache version, you should have an option to "view source code" or similar on your browser. Copy the portion of code that's the body of the post, then go to blogger- new post- choose the "edit html" option, and paste in the code.

The bit of code you want starts with

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5137855607452477874"

and ends just before it next says

<div class='post-footer

Hope that works!

Kellie: It worked great! Thanks so much! I was fond of that story and was grief-stricken when I thought I'd lost it. Many thanks!

Anon: Thanks for the thought!

If it's a site that you have subscribed to on Google Reader, (if Google cache fails you), you can find old material from your blog there too.

If you don't subscribe to your own blog (why would you?) you could ask the general public to go look for it there. There are plenty of us that subscribe to your blog.

Jeff: I never even thought of that! Thanks for the tip!
