HOW ABOUT SOME COUNTRY?

Thanks a million to William for sending me this link to the Collins Kids! John used to play this video all the time! Let me see what other good country I can find...

...How "bout this? Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys doing "San Antonio Rose!"

Or this: Jimmie Rodgers doing "Blue Yodel!" This is one of those infuriating clips that stops every few seconds the first time it plays, at least on my computer. If you have the same problem let it download in fits and starts then play it over again.

This old country stuff is great!

That first video is Larry Collins of the Collins Kids. He played guitar and performed like that when he was only eight years old! Comletely amazing!

I can do Bob Wills, I can do Hank Williams. When country was about a time and a place it was really something. I dunno what Tobey Keith and Garth Brooks have to offer. I don't need songs about buying flags at Wal-mart. If one of them could figure out how to sell a rap album, I swear they'd do it. The only contemporary Country music I know of with anything I think of as authenticity would be like Soggy Bottom Boys or Emmylou Harris.

Didn't that kid with the guitar in the first clip grow up to be Tobey Keith?

Slim Bryant, the man who played guitar on Jimmie Rogers first album, lives in my town and is damn near 100. I used to take guitar lessons from him.

Hey Eddie,

Here is a little Bluegrass. Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs & Lester Flatt, The Beatles (Yes, They sang a Bluegrass song of Bill Monroe's), Dolly Parton, Earl Scruggs & Steve Martin.

I posted them on my Blog:

Wow, that Jimmie Rogers Blue Yodel is a stunner. I have neglected Jimmie hitherto, but no longer! (A brief consultation with Google reveals that he died in 1933, in his thirties. So sad!)

No problem Eddie, I'm flattered to be mentioned on the Theory Corner!

A million thanks right back for posting the Bob Wills video, my dad used to play his stuff all the time. ...Really loud, too.

To 'I don't really care'- the kid in the video is Larry Collins, he stopped playing professionally some time in the 60s I believe but since, he's gotten back together with his sister and they still play shows all the time today. If you YouTube them a lot of videos are from recent festivals, including wierdly a rockabilly fest in Spain.

The kid's amazing. I love how they all look like they're having the greatest time.

This is the first I have evr heard or seen the Collins. She's so gosh darn cute, their both so talented.

Was baffled by his double neck guitar. Usually one neck is a 12 string the other a 6 but they both have 6. I did some googling.
His guitar is a Moserite. One neck is an octave higher (the short one).

Mickey Mouse should have sued Bob Wills for stealing his voice.
